Contexte et atouts du poste
This PhD thesis lies in the scope of operations research and combinatorial optimization. It will involve links with the fields of economics and electrical engineering.
The main objective of this project is to evaluate and optimize the resilience of power systems in the context of a massive insertion of renewable energies. The project aims to elaborate a comprehensive and integrated set of decision-support methods considering extreme events in present and future climates, the complexity of the power grid, and socio-economic scenarios.
This thesis position is funded by the PowDev project (PEPR TASE). The project also seeks to achieve the following tasks:

Simulate, characterize, and analyze the scenario of a blackout in a power system with massive renewable energy (PSMRE), including extreme weather events from climate change, realistic electrotechnical knowledge, grid complexity, interactions with other critical infrastructures, economics, and societal impact models.
Propose a quantitative and systemic framework to optimize the resilience of a PSMRE, addressing remedial solutions in design and operation to maximize resilience against major blackouts.

Mission confiée
The recruited person will propose models and algorithms for several variants of network grid design involving climatic events and socio-economic impact.
Principales activités

Read technical and scientific documentation.
Write a report including a summary of the documentation.
Collect data sets and implement a pipeline for assessing the quality of the models.
Write and implement models based on the literature for variants of the problem.
Run computational experiments based on the models and the generated data.
